Amway Distributors Anonymous (ADA):
The Twelve Steps
Another entry in my Dreambook, this one an anonymous posting. It got quickly swamped at the time because of some serious discussions.
We admitted we were powerless over our downline - that our lives had become unmanageable, and that freedom from Amway was the best freedom of all.
Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity: Namely, returning to a normal life in which no one ever asked us "So is it Amway?"
Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him, without having to petition Him anymore to "please let me hit 1000 PV"
Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves, as well as a physical inventory of all those damn prospecting tapes, and filled a 55-gallon trash can with them and left it at the curb.
Admitted to God, to ourselves and to anyone to whom we ever showed the plan, chased to their car with a tape, or badgered over the phone the exact nature of our wrongs.
Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character, as well as the metal shelves in our garage containing, among other things, a case of SweetShot and those prospecting CD's that were made obsolete by the new "system" that came out every 6 months.
Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings as well as our ADA number.
Made a list of all persons we had prospected, and became willing to make amends to them all.
Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others, for example if God forbid they actually "got in," and apologizing would cause "Ambot backlash."
Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it. Made sure we never uttered the phrases "Fake it till you make it," or "support the system" or "6-4-2" under penalty of being slapped by our spouse.
Sought, through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with the concept that a business built on unsustainable consumerism cannot last.
Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others who were in Amway and practice these principles in all our affairs.
